With Hand in Hand

I was invited Thursday night to the Photographic Museum for a charity evening in aid of Hand in Hand. I think this is a fantastic organization that gives poor people a chance in life by helping them to help themselves, training mostly women for entrepeneurship.

Earlier this year we sponsored Hand in Hand at our gala dinner to launch our new Select Collection. Our invited guests could bid on exciting holidays, inspired by an address by Hand in Hand's founder Percy Barnevik.

This Thursday at the Photographic Museum lots of money was raised  - 5.4 million SEK.  Twenty villages were “sold”. Every village cost  270000 SEK  Fantastic!

Here are some pictures from this successful evening:

Speech by  Percy Barnevik ...
Inspiring us with the importance of charity that does not make people dependent but encourages entrepeneurship.

In India there are 300 million people who live on less than 1.25 USD per day. To help them to help themselves, Hand in Hand has a project in which 1.7 million jobs have helped over 8 million people to have a better life. The project involves education and training for potential breadwinners, and is complemented by work in schools, health programmes, building projects and more.

Fantastic pictures were on display in the photographic Museum taken by Magnus Wennman on his journey to the villages

Building projects

This is a charming photograph of a child who represents hope where once there was nothing…

And another of the very many children deserving help
