A pristine hideaway

My first stay on this Maldives trip was at the transformed Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa. Now with brand new water villas to add to its secluded beach villas, this resort lies about as far North as you can go in this country of island gems.

The domestic flight from Male takes 45 minutes to the picturesque international airport...

Then there is a 20 minute boat ride over the crystal seas...

Large by Maldives standards – over 1 km long - Dhonakulhi  island is fringed by pristine beaches.

On one side there is vast turquoise lagoon perfect for swimming, and on the other lovely corals. The beach villas are wrapped in greenery and much of the island is jungle, crossed by sandy paths. A wonderful walk to breakfast…

I was impressed with the lovely new water villas.

But the beach villas are special too, perfect for people who love swimming. We stayed in a beach villa with pool and in front of us was this lovely beach…

There are 8 categories of villa, and the upper categories all get a butler and Taittinger champagne in the villa on arrival.

Our butler was excellent.

So was the head butler. They have both worked for Hideaway for 10 years
